Dr Lester Levy, CNZM

Dr Lester Levy is the appointed Chairman of Auckland Transport, the New Zealand Health Research Council, Tonkin and Taylor, the New Zealand Radiology Group and the Eye Institute. He is a member of the Ministerial Advisory Group for Health who provides independent advice to the Minister of Health. Dr Levy is the recently retired appointed Chairman of Auckland, Counties Manukau and Waitemata District Health Boards.

Dr Levy is a Lead Reviewer for the State Services Commission’s Performance Improvement Framework, a joint central agency initiative to help public sector leaders improve performance.

Dr Levy is widely recognised and respected for his leadership knowledge and research and was the foundation Head of the New Zealand Leadership Institute at the University of Auckland, where is he is an Adjunct Professor of Leadership at the University of Auckland’s Graduate School of Management. He is best known for leading a number of very successful organisational performance transformations in both the private and public sector.

In the 2013 New Year’s Honours List Dr Levy was appointed as a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to health and education. Dr Levy a graduate of Medicine and an MBA had his formative management background in large multi-nationals. Previously seconded to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and awarded the prestigious King’s Fund International Fellowship from the King’s Fund in London, his leadership research has been published in a number of international peer reviewed academic journals and he is the author of the book “Leadership and the Whirlpool Effect”.
